I like that you produce a lot in house but you mentioned above that you do broker some printing. How does a print broker work?
Most printing companies specialize in one kind of printing. For example, there are t-shirt printers, offset printiners, sign makers etc. They do that to remain competitive in their niche. 90% of all printers at some point broker projects out if they can't do it in house.

Print Brokers work along very similar lines to an insurance broker or finance broker.
What business owner or manager in today's fast paced business world doesn't use the services of one or both of these other providers.
The majority of home mortgages today are now written by mortgage or finance brokers.
And the reason is... they provide a superior service, usually at a more competitive price. But most importantly, they save a business owner or employee time!
When a print broker receives a quote or an order from you, the customer, they will negotiate with all of their printing vendors to get the best price possible for you. If they don't get the best price first time around, they will return to all the vendors that are competitive until they get the absolutely lowest price possible for you.
All the while, each print vendor knows that they're competing against other print vendors for the work.

Do you think telling people you don't actually produce everything you supply in-house might scare them off?
First off, we do produce a large majority of what we offer ourselves. There are a some things that we broker out because if we did it ourselves we wouldn't be able to give our clients a competitive price because of the amount of equipment we would need and also because of all of the companies in the area that are competing for the same business. In answer to the question though, initially, companies that brokered any sort of printing out were extremely cautious about letting their customers know about what they actually did.... or didn't do.
They would somewhat indicate that they were printers, being fearful that if the customers realized that they did not actually print everything they offered, they would not be receiving a quality product. On the contrary; with WNY Print producing much of what we offer in house and affiliations with quality printing companies in the community working with us, you get just that. A quality product at a competitive price.
So over the years as the confidence of brokerage grew, companies started to talk freely, although cautiously at first, about the service that they provided and soon started to realize that they had absolutely nothing to be afraid of.
Most consumers could see the benefits of dealing with a printing company that brokered out jobs. They understand how the benefits could be of value to their company or organization.
Many printing companies today choose to broker some projects out, but some are still against it. What's the difference between a printing broker and a printing company?
Printing companies are PRODUCTION driven.
Many printing companies have huge, expensive, hungry presses (with huge lease payments) that they absolutely must keep running at all cost so their focus is well & truly on production.
And so it should be.
Keeping up with the cutting edge technology of the printing world so their printing presses run faster and better than their competitors is an extremely expensive game they all need to play. That is, of course what they all need to continue to do to remain competitive.
A print broker simply does not have these issues and concerns. They aren't inundated with production related problems or issues so they have more time to focus on what's most important.... you, the customer.
I'm quite happy dealing with the printing company I've used in the past. Why would I want to switch to WNYPrint?

How is it possible that a print broker can be less inexpensive than an actual manufacturer?
We have a large buying power with minimal overhead. Direct printing costs are guaranteed to be less and indirect costs like warehousing and print management are greatly reduced.
It's the same mentality as a travel agent. They can get you a great price on that flight you've been looking for, after you tried to get it by yourself direct from the major airline at double the cost. The major airline is in the business of flying planes and getting you where you need to be, not contacting you out of the blue to ask you if you want to fly here or there.
